About imara

what's in a name?

imara, the word, is one of those Swahili words with so many nuances that it is impossible to translate with a single word equivalent in English. It is literary a sentence of its own depending on where and how it is being used.

imara can loosely translate to one of these or all of them: steady, rigid, with strong foundation, indispensable, immutable, lasting, firm, well-established, unshakeable, indelible, ineradicable, enduring, persisting, surviving, fixed, durable, permanent, stable, steadfast... you get the gist! 😂

It is because of this layered and complex meaning that I name the collective of the things that I create, and I myself try to be, imara.

imara is the canvas and the pages on which I curate and display the life I wish to create for myself and others. I explore here my passion for fashion, present my literally inspired visual arts, write my visual arts inspired written works, share my travel diaries, show my finding comfort in food, and heck, whatever else I feel like...
