to be African | to be woman | to be creative | to be fashionable | to be intelligible | to be imara
My name is Bernie Mshana and I am delighted to make your acquaintance.
I am a 20-something, fairly broke, lover and liver of life determined to define and practice what it means, in my own terms, to be African, to be Woman, to be Creative, to be Fashionable, to be Intelligible .....to be IMARA.
I am a local of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, but I have lived, in varying degrees and time measures, in six other countries. Thanks to this nomadic life I have become a multicultural, multilingual, and multimedia creative, and have since grown the desire to fashion and showcase a life that is common to (or possible for) liminal hu-women like myself.
imara is the canvas and the pages on which I curate and display that lifestyle. I explore here my passion for fashion, present my literally inspired visual arts, write my visual arts inspired written works, share my linguistics, student and travel diaries, show my finding comfort in food, and heck, whatever else I feel like...
Welcome and enjoy!
