Dar es salaam-based Visual Artist, Fashion Designer, Storyteller, Copywriter, Conversation Curator, Blogger and Stationery aficionado
My name is Bernie Mshana and I am delighted to make your acquaintance.
I am a 20-something, fairly broke, womanist by passion, entrepreneur by circumstance, lover and liver of life determined to (re)define and practice what it means, in my own terms, to be African, to be Woman, to be Creative, to be Fashionable, to be Intelligible, to be Beautiful .....to be IMARA.
I am a local of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, but I have lived, in varying degrees and time measures, in six other countries. Thanks to this nomadic life I have become a multicultural, multilingual, and multimedia creative, and have since grown the desire to fashion and showcase a life that is common to (or possible for) liminal hu-women like myself.
From time to time I extend my word savvy and creativity to others as a Visual Artist, Photographer, Fashion Stylist, Fashion Designer, Storyteller, Copywriter, Conversation Curator. On a daily basis I am pushing my Afro-feminist agendas on my blog imara by Mshana.
imara by Mshana is the canvas and the pages on which I curate and display the life I wish to create for myself and others. I explore there my passion for fashion, present my literally inspired visual arts, write my visual arts inspired written works, share my linguistics, travel diaries, show my finding comfort in food, and heck, whatever else I feel like...
Welcome and enjoy!
