From a good learner to a good student

commitments to do better even when away

My experience with missed deadlines and disorganised notes has taught me that being a good learner is not the same as being a good student. It’s New Year’s Eve and I am back home in Dar es Salaam writing a research paper due two weeks ago for a class I took in Paris in the Fall (August - December semester). So, I am clearly lacking on the whole good student thing. I am not proud of this! In my defence, my laptop crashed and all I had written for this class was gone. Yet, this is the reason why being a better student is at the top of my new year resolution list…oh and also rekindling my relationship with google docs 😂. But I don’t intend to just be any good student, I set out to be Mariana -the girl from Mariana’s Study Corner. If you have never heard of her then you are doing school wrong my friend, and maybe you too need to also change your life priorities. All jokes aside though, do check her site and YouTube channel out, she is only the most amazing student and whatever…so yeah. I mean, the girl has colour coded notes for God’s sake. Who doesn’t want to be her!

You might or might not be wondering where all this is coming from. Either way, I am going to tell you 😂. The reason why I need to become a better student is because I am going to be doing a study abroad program in South Africa and I am not sure how understanding my new professors there will be. It has been a while since I have adhered to deadlines and at this age, I think it’s about time I reverse these bad habits.

To begin with, I have started to actively use my bullet journal for university. Evidence is in these few pages which I have made, specific for college. I am outchea creating assignment trackers, timetable spreads and whatnot so it is dead serious 😆 I hope I can keep up with them when the whole college madness kicks of. I will keep you posted on how this works out for me.
