Home missing

moving back to South Africa

Hawaii Beach Ununio, Dar es Salaam

By the time you are reading this, I must be on the plane to Cape Town already. I am moving. Again! I am not complaining... how can I? I chose this. However, that doesn't make it any less painful. Moving is scary and very unsettling, especially when you are moving from places you love. I love home and I love being home. The more I go the more I long to come back. I am telling myself, "it’s gonna be okay Bernie, you have done this before...6 times". Yet, I am here tearing up. I guess you just never get used to leaving.

I don’t get to come home often. The plane ticket prices are unbelievable and I am too much of a “poor African child” to be coming home too often. The only reason I get to move a lot is because of school. I chose to spend my third year in University doing two study abroad programs. I recently completed my first semester in France and now, I am off to finish Junior year at the shores of Cape Town. I am excited to see what the semester brings and can’t wait to share all the growth, challenges and adventures.

Are you also in Uni? Are you doing or contemplating a semester abroad? Have you done a semester abroad? Comment below, I would really love to know.

Love, this is a life, not a lifestyle blog. You’ll find here tales of my clothes making, intentional living, chai drinking, feminist thinking Afrikan life. Welcome, and read on.
