Postcards from Touws River

a weekend getaway at the Aquila Private Game Reserve

Hi loves!  This past weekend the ISA Program, which I am a part of, arranged a weekend getaway to the Aquila Private Game Reserve. Having grown up in Tanzania, I was naturally sceptic of this whole trip because my whole student life in Tanzania involved going to national parks so I thought to myself, what could a tiny private reserve offer a girl?

Turns out nothing and a lot at the same time. I was not able to see anything new in terms of wildlife (except for the Springbok). In fact, it was very underwhelming because once you’ve seen the Serengeti everything else is like “meh!” 😂 Yet, I was still happy to see elephants (ps. Elephants are my favourite animals) and re-live the touristy safari experience....especially because I had a camera this time around. Because I had seen all these animals, I was able to focus on creating beautiful photos instead of being in awe of the wildlife itself.

Nevertheless, who does not enjoy a hotel/resort food, bed and spa treatments? It was everything a girl could ask for after a rough week like the one I had just had.

Because the trip was a program excursion, we also had a chance to do some community service while we were there. We spent the afternoon on Saturday in Touwsrivier taking care of children at a crèche. It was so worthwhile for me because I got my creative juices flowing painting kids faces and playing. We also got to relive our own childhoods 😂

Here are some Postcard worthy photos I took. Enjoy! 😉
